Janay Naybesa Interviews W/ KimberlyNichole
Last modified on 2011-09-26 18:55:46 GMT. 0 comments. Top.
“It’s just an everyday hustle, I hate to use that word hustle but that’s the reality of being an independent artist. Hustling you’re moving, there’s no rulebook, there’s no guidelines, there’s no map of how to do what you’re doing.”
I had the amazing opportunity to do a phone interview with the Seattle native KimberlyNichole, which is an interview that when from your typical question and answer to a freak the questions lets just have girl talk situation.
During the interview we talked about Kimberly being on this years 2011 Bet Awards, why she left Seattle, what she wants people to learn about her when they listen to her album ‘The Yellow Brick Journey’ and my favorite part of the interview her natural hair.
Check out the interview above.
Why she left Seattle:
“I’ve always wanted to live in NY when I was a child in Seattle, and I kind of knew after I graduated high school that I wanted to expand my horizons and relocate. I went to two different places, I went to Atlanta and went to college, and then from Atlanta I went to New York”
The message she’s putting in her debut album ‘The Yellow Brick Journey’:
“I just want them to get a personal sense of where I come from, where I’ve been, my leaving Seattle, getting on this path and perusing music. And while on the path falling in love, falling out of love, struggling; I just want people to get a feel and a sense of my journey as it’s been up to date.”
KimberlyNichole admits to being “nervous” before her 2011 BET Awards performance:
“I was nervous as hell. When I got to LA it was like my sinuses started acting up. I had a sore throat, I was like ‘Oh My God I’m not going to make it this small performance ’ I’m like ‘Oh My God is something sabotaging me?’ But when I got by the stage before I went up, it was like I got my game face on, and I’m like ‘Okay Kim this is what you do, you always do this girl, get up there and kill it.’ By the time I got on stage I just had this boldness in me, I’m like‘honey just sing’ and give a show in 30 seconds”
Her plans to make Seattle proud:
“I’ve always wanted my town to be proud. I’m proud to be from Seattle. You rarely hear about music people or innovators coming from Seattle. You haven’t really heard about that since the grunge and Jimmy or Quincy. My desire has always been to make that mark on the industry that Jimmy and Nirvana did but to be memorable. To have a Wikipedia that says ‘Seattle born, music innovator KimmberlyNichole.’ That’s been my desire to really make my city proud, and for this generation to have that mark on the industry, and I think that it’s going to happen.”
As for what’s next for Kim, she tells me:
“I’m still working on new music, I plan to release a Rock EP, which will be a free download of my favorite rock covers. Which has some Nirvana songs.”
During the interview, Kim didn’t know when she would be coming back to Seattle to do a show for her hometown. However she made sure to let it be known that she wants to come back:
“Every artist I know, they always wanna go home to perform. Like I love going to New York, and Atlanta, and Virginia and over seas to perform, but I’m like I’m from Seattle I wanna go home and perform in front of my home town.”
I’m not sure what happened between when I did the phone interview and not BUT I received an e-mail from Kim’s manager saying she will be back here in the 206 on November 4th to do a show. I dont have any other details on the specific or ticket prices but I will sure let you all know when I get that info.

Naybesa Interviews Roderic + His New Video “Put It Down”
Last modified on 2011-08-09 21:00:13 GMT. 0 comments. Top.
“Writing for me has become something like a recap process.”
I’ve been bumpin Roderic for a couple years now, and since he just dropped a new video [that was on point I must say] for “Thrown AMF” last Friday, I thought it would be the perfect time to pick his brain. Check out what the local Tacoma rapper has been up to since his appearance on 106 & Park, and why if he could he would get advice from Young Money Cash Money rapper Bidman.
What made you go into Rapping??
I was always a music lover but I was actually shy as a kid. I started to write everything that i didn’t say which eventually evolved to rhymes, full songs, and then shows. I haven’t stopped since
As you know Washington State really isn’t on the map now a days especially when it comes to rap music. How do you think your music can change that?
I think I have a solid understanding of musical dynamics vs. the market which shows in my music. Not everyone can or even wants to walk the fine line of making something radio and television worthy while still remaining lyrically witty, or delivering a message. Thats always been a challenge that I’m up for
You was on 106&Park a couple years ago, has that helped your career out in anyway?
It was definitely a plus! the feedback from viewers via twitter, facebook & youtube was incredible. I took that moment as a opportunity to build new relationships and get on a few peoples radar. but no stage is big enough to keep me out the booth so to be honest i enjoyed the moment but soon after i just wanted to get back to the studio.
Has your rap style ever been compared to anyone that’s mainstream?
Yeah, My bro Dj ill will always says i remind him of a 2011 nelly… Thats prolly my favorite comparison. Nelly was actually the 1st artist I seen perform live, and also the 1st one I opened for. I’ve always thought his entrance to the game was dope as well!
If you could get advice from any artist in the game right now who would it be and why?
I think I’d wanna chop it up with birdman. business wise, I feel like he’s got the formula for how to move in this day & age. You see him & his camp merging with others when necessary and always keeping up their pace although their on top. Thats definitely somebody to listen to.
Last I checked you write your own music. What do you use for inspiration when writing?
Mainly my own life. Writing for me has become something like a recap process. If i just got in from a fly ass party then i’ll probably be talkin that fly shit. If i just seen something on TV that’s got me feeling philosophical, then you might here a deep track from me. I think its perfect that way. as long as I’m paying attention there’s always more to write about.
You just had a video drop for “Thrown AMF” and I must say the video was on point, and reminded me of Moms Weekend at Eastern. What was your favorite part in filming the video?
The Entire thing!! I was scheduled for a show in Ellensburg for CWU students, but knew I was gonna be in town a day early. A couple students told me that weekend would be crazy so i grabbed my bros from orynge productions and they pretty much rolled the camera while i did my thing. it was a non stop two-day party! I’m glad i was able to give the students something dope to look at as well.
Now for those like myself that are truly feelin this song where can we download it and what mixtape or album of yours will it be on?
Its definitely gonna be on my full length project which will be out no later than sept. I’m kind if keeping the name hidden as well. but I can guarantee it’ll all be worth the wait. As for as the song…
http://hulkshare.com/lwutlzm8niyk enjoy
Now that your video has dropped, what’s next for Roderic?
Shows, more videos, and a full length project no later than sept. Stay tuned!
Ok last question and I always do this one for my ladies. You have a song with Sean Carson named Gutter Girls, have your found your Gutter Girl yet? Or are you still looking for your Miss Ma?
Hahaha, Naah i still haven’t found either or!… maybe she’ll come find me instead lol, @RodericMusic

Naybesa Interviews Sean Casron + His New Video “Hide & Go Get It”
Last modified on 2011-08-09 21:01:37 GMT. 0 comments. Top.
I got a chance to snag a interview with my boy Sean Carson just in time for his new video Hide & Go Get It off his Mix Tape Love & Tonic to hit the net. In the interview he talks about what he wants people to get out of his music, the idea behind the title for Love & Tonic, why he picked Hide & Go Get It for a video, and even lets us know whether or not he found his Dream Girl. Check out the interview and his new video below and tell me what you think:
How did you come up with the name Sean Carson?
A: Well I didn’t want to come out with a name that I would have to change once I was older so I just kept It original. My real surname isn’t really that marketable so I took the last name of my great grandfather from California.
What got you into singing?
A: I start singing as a youngin growing up in the 90’s. I used to listen to a lot of smooth jazz and R&B with my mom on the radio.
If you could pick any artist that’s hot right now to be on your next single who would it be and why?
A: That’s hard. I got too many!!! Rappers I’d say somebody like Drizzy, Wayne, Luda or Kanye. Singers: R.Kelly, Tank, Jamie Foxx, Frank Ocean. Females I’d say Karina Pasian, Dondria, Keri Hilson, Melonie Fiona, Niki Minaj. Too many to say 1.
What is a must do for you right before you go on stage?
A: I’m sure any artist would agree when i say PRAY. Gotta make sure you right with god before you go on stage!
What message do you want people to get from your music?
A: The message I want to convey to people that life is real. We are all real people who go thru real things. My music tells the stories of so many people. I want to get my music out to let people know that we all go thru things alike and entertain while doing so.
Your newest Mixtape out is Love & Tonic, how did you come up with that title?
A: Well love & tonic is a word play off a very powerful drink gin & tonic. I feel like the music contents of this music are such so I switched it up and called it love & tonic.
Speaking of Love & Tonic your song Hide And Go Get It has a video coming out this Friday. Last I checked this is a pretty sexy song so what side off Sean Carson can the ladies look forward to seeing in this video?
A: They can look forward to seeing a lil eye candy. I wont say too much. They’ll have to go and check it out for themselves.
What made you chose Hide And Go Get it for a video and not something like Be The One You Need?
A: All my songs are worthy of a video but this one I felt was something we all can connect to. Some may say the video is too explicit but I say harmless. Growing up most of us if not all at one time was exposed to or heard about the game and wanted to play.
Where will the public be able to see your video for Hide & Go Get it when it hits the net?
A: It Will be on a few sites but will surely be on YouTube just put in the search “Hide & Go Get It’-Sean Carson and it should pop right up.
Last but not least, everyone hates this question, however I asked everyone else that I have interviewed so it wouldn’t be fair if I didn’t ask you. Now on your Day & Nite Mixtape you told the ladies what kind of girl you want in Dream Girl… Have you found her yet??
A: I haven’t found it yet… I guess the search still continues…
Stay up to date with Sean Carson by following him on Twitter: @SeanCarson , subbing his YouTube channel and checking out his website Sean Carson Music for exclusive music listenings and mixtape downloads.
If your and up and coming artist and would like me to check out your music for a interview e-mail me at nay@naybesa.com
Exclusive Interview With Sunny Phoenix
Last modified on 2011-07-06 19:00:53 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

“I want to bring back the feeling of hearing Music that would make u stay parked in your car windows up on a Hot summer day just to hear that last Bar.”
Some girls may say lucky me but I say it’s just my job; recently I had the pleasure of interviewing “Mr. I’m So Cocky” himself, Sunny Phoenix and I must say it was pretty fun. However normally people that are “cocky” won’t take the time to open up and let people know what’s really good but Sunny Phoenix stepped out of the “cocky” stereotype and let it all out. And as for my ladies, I think some of you will be happy with one of his answers:
With a name like “Sunny Phoenix” you already know I’m going to ask how that name came about.
Ironically 2 of my Favorite Movies Spawned the Name Sunny Phoenix. Being Lightskinned My Friends always called me Sunny but it was my Favorite movie A Bronx Tale that ultimately made me accept the Moniker. Sonny was the Neighborhood Gangster and all around Frank Sinatra type Mob figure with a genuine heart sort of the Good Bad Guy. Now Phoenix I acquired from The Movie Demolition Man Wesley Snipes played an evil No holds Barred Simon Phoenix who didn’t care about a thing in the world. More so the bad guy gone badder, Put the 2 together and u have A Good an Evil Persona of Sunny Phoenix I can be a Cool calm smooth Rapper on a love song or a maniacal take your heads off Lyricist all in the same Body.
You say “Hip Hop has been destroyed so I’m here to rebuild” how do you plan on doing so and when did you have your WTF moment realizing that Hip Hop was going south?
I say it has been destroyed more so at the A&Rs Labels Promoters and Radio side of it. It’s at a state where Talented Artist are being overlooked for Artist who don’t even Live breathe die and Pump music. I want to bring back the feeling of hearing Music that would make u stay parked in your car windows up on a Hot summer day just to hear that last Bar. Now a days we here music on the radio that won’t be remembered in 5 let alone 2 years. The Music business isn’t looking for Longevity Artist these days they want quick bucks so they give fads 15minutes of fame and throw them away. I want you to listen to my album and think “This Kid didn’t compromise he did it his way”. My Out The Box Movement Campaign will push Me and other artist to explore Music different melodies more instruments and sounds i want my music played in Stadiums and remembered 10 or 20 years from now.
In your song “ I Choose You ” it seems like your telling the story of Sunny Phoenix and letting it be known that you are “ here to stay ” was this just the beginning for you?
Funny thing about I Choose You that song came later in my career but right on time. I just remember ish playing the song and 20minutes later I had all the lyrics down, and yes it is my ode to “You Can’t Run From Your Destiny” the track says Music Chose Me I didn’t wake up one day and think I’m gonna be a rapper, My whole life i was surrounded by artist, music, melodies and entertainers and not once abuse it. From Cab Calloway to Jay-Z Carole King to Lauryn Hill I let you know that These artist influence hip hop country pop and gospel every aspect was a stepping stone for me and I Love It.
Where do you get a lot of the inspiration for the music you write?
Honestly everything inspires me to write from growing up in a single parent home to living in 1 of the country’s Most Dangerous Cities I see The Light & the Dark of every story and I put it to music. I want the world to see The World from my Point Of View like the Temptations and smoky gave us Detroit’s view Prince gave us Minnesota’s view and Kanye gave us Chicago’s. Here is Inland empire’s View. Told By ME inspired by every Person I meet. Drug dealers and teachers i have no limitations i want to show you every angle.
Growing up in San Bernardino what introduced you to music?
It was actually a combination of My Mother playing Temptations Frank Sinatra and Diana Ross to My Uncle Wayne Being the Local DJ that introduced me. At Age 10 I would sneak into my Uncle’s Garage with my cousin William and we would mess with the turntables for hours. Then we would write our own rhymes and battle each other to see who was better of course I would always win haha. I can remember my mom having this Cassette tape of Will Smith and I was like Yo who is this Parents Really don’t understand haha. I was Blown Away i wanted to be Will Smith Hell Still one of My Favorite Artist.
I read that you grew up as the son of a drug dealer, what made you not choose to be like your father?
I never knew my Dad I kinda think the reason sunny came about was because I didn’t want to be called by his name. Seeing my Mom Struggle my Whole life and i could only think how could u leave your kids. Plus Going to jail just isnt Me I want to be able to raise my kids when i have them and not have to wonder if I’m going to be dead or locked up while they grow Up.
When you worked with Robin Thicke did he give you any advice that you could take with you?
More so his actions. I came into a great Camp Storm Daniels Marlaina Kemp Robin Thicke who all had previous Songs written on popular artist it was just a blessing to be around them. I remember being in the Studio when robin recorded 2 the sky and i literally teared up to the lyrics but the way he records i mean from start to finish no punches just let it play and he sat there and played the piano and sang every note the whole 6min thru no mess ups. He gets up and we go into the next room and we start writing this song If I while The band hangs out. That’s an artist right there hell I showed him how to work Myspace and he was so deep into music Myspace was like a brand new toy to him. I will always keep that drive and determination in me All music All the time
How did you come up with the idea of “Mr. I’m So Cocky” or have you been cocky your whole life?
My Family was the Family that was good in everything. We always got 1st we always got the girls we were popular everyone wanted to spend the night at our house. All we know is to be the best at what we do so cocky was just a DNA strand to us. It kinda carried over in my personality and my Homegirl Jessica Hiromoto (MO) one day jus Said “Sup Mr. I’m so Cocky” and I neva looked Back.
When people call you “ The Entertainers’ Entertainer ” is that something that pushes you to do better and better or do you block all that out?
I Love to Perform I Hit the Stage wit so much Energy that Any other artist in the crowd wants to jump up on stage and rock with me. So in a sense it does push me but I don’t go into the performance thinking “Better than b4″ I go in Thinking This Is My Last Show Leave Em with something to talk about.
And last but not least, this is my question for everyone. Because you are “Mr. I’m So Cocky” that means you can get just about any girl you want. Have you taken advantage of that and picked your one and only OR are you still testing the waters?
….I Plead the 5th haha I’m so focused on Music I wouldn’t Notice. Yes I test the waters but Music is always first in my Life. I Love Women yet A Woman has a hard time being second to Music and at this time I’m not going to give up music for Anything. I also feel Anything or One i want i can get So Look out cuz once my eyes are Set I get focused on that Task Hahaha.
Check out Sunny Phoenix on Twitter, MySpace, and even YouTube but in the mean time in between time; check out some of his music and trust you won’t be upset if you do:
Exclusive Interview With Jayy Starr
Last modified on 2010-03-06 21:55:50 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

“I believe that if you claim to be a real “artist” you should be able to dabble in any musical environment”
Can you guess who I’m talking about she’s raw, she’s real, has pure talent, and can rap circles around some of the many female rappers that we have today; you still don’t know well then let me help you out since you’re a little slow and its ok. Her name is Jayy Starr, born June 4, 1989 in Inglewood and was destined for fame. Recently I was lucky enough to get to do an interview with Jayy Starr and well, how about we let the interview speak for it’s self.
Who gave you the name Jayy Starr?
Well, I guess you can say I was born with half and adopted the other half (lol). My first name is Jessica, so everyone I know, friends and fam, call me Jayy. Then once I started doing music heavily and performing a lot of people started calling me superstar. Around this time I was still going through possible stage names, trying to find one that fit my identity perfectly. So I finally thought one day, “Hey, why don’t I use my nickname Jayy and something else” then I remembered “superstar” and put two and two together. Now the rest is history.
Is there anyone you look up to in the music industry?
There’s a few people actually. First and foremost my grandmother. She was heavy in the game back in the day on the gospel world. Has an album out and all that. Her group was the LA Gospel Jewels. Then after her Ludacris, Queen Latifa, Da Brat, Will Smith is my biggest influence, just so many people. Basically anybody promoting positive and doing well for themselves.
Who helped you get your name out there?
I’d have to give most of the credit to myself. I’ve always been a real business minded person since a young age so I’ve always asked questions and used knowledge from people that knew the industry I wanted to be in. I used every online outlet I could once I got the internet (lol) and just grinded. Recorded songs on my computer mic and posted them on various sites and oddly enough people actually those songs. When I listen to them now I laugh, I was wack (lol), but they must’ve seen something in me. I started learning the ropes with networking and eventually met a lot of different people that helped here and there, which lead me to meet even more helpful people. So on and so forth. Now I am where I’m at now with my wonderful team Hot Beetz Universal and HarveyFunn Entertainment.
Growing up in a single parent home surrounded by gangs, was music your escape from all the drama?
Yeah it definitely was, but I was young you know so I didn’t stray too far from the trouble. I was a real bad kid, smart as hell. Always had advanced courses in school, honor roll, special writing programs, the whole nine, but danger was fun to me back then. Whether it was in school causing ruckus in class, stealing from the local ice cream trucks and liquor stores (lol) or throwing rocks at gangmembers or police cars with my little “crew”. Once I realized music was my true calling I simmered down A LOT.
Have you been able to work with any big artist? I actually have. I was approached by Tyght Whyte’s management Max and Tyght is a southern artist who has a single coming out and the two features on the single are myself and Hurricane Chris. So we all parlayed and talked the politics. I got in the studio laid my part down and the rest is history. The record should be dropping soon. Also, thanks to twitter (lol) I’ve chopped it up with Reed Dollaz and we’re going to get a hot track out to the people soon as well.
What made you turn to raping and not be a typical female singer?
(lol) I started off singing, in the church with my grandmother at a very young age. I went to all the conventions and quartets that different churches would have and sang. They loved me, but you know around like 9 years old I really started to put my pen to the paper even more, but this time with a beat. I fell in love with all things hip hop. It wasn’t the bling or the cars. It was just the music. I was infatuated with the words. Imagine me this 9 year old little girl with pigtails sitting in the middle of my grandmothers bed with her old tape player listening to the classics. I grew up in a home surrounded by music, but it was mainly gospel or the oldies like Al Green, Minnie Ripperton, who happens to be one of my favs, The Temptations, The OJays, Frankie Lymon, Diana Ross, everybody in that era you know, but the first rapper I ever really listened to was Cannibus. His wordplay is unlike any other. So I was this young kid listening to his music, learning his lyrics and dissecting them, actually understanding what he was talking about. I wanted to be the female version of him growing up. I didn’t care about how successful he was or not. I just wanted to rap like him.
What’s your personal rap style?
I don’t really think I have one set style. I believe that if you claim to be a real “artist” you should be able to dabble in any musical environment (genre), adapt, and come out with a hit. That’s what I do. I try not to stick to one set genre because I want everyone to be able to enjoy my music. For those that might not like rap, maybe they’ll like one of my pop joints you know. I’m pretty versatile and that’s what you have to be to have longevity in this industry because it’s constantly changing. What’s hot right now may be old news tomorrow.
With nicknames like “the princess of Hip Hop” and “West Coast voice of the youth” do you feel that will be hard to live up too?
Eh, I don’t think it will be. I mean right now I have one foot in the door so I’m having fun with it and I know once I’m fully in that’ll be when the real pressure is on from holding those titles. Critics and naysayers will be hard at work trying to prove I’m not, but I’ll keep a level head and continue putting out hot music for the people. You know there’s always going to be someone saying the “not’s” and “Can’t’s”, but that’s just life. I can’t have everyone loving me, it wouldn’t balance out with the universe (lol). It would kind of creep me out. I’ll definitely do what I do though.
Being a pretty lady like yourself I know a lot of guys would like to know if you are spoken for or not. So are you in a relationship or is your main and soul focus your music right now?
(lol) Oh geez. Well technically I am super single. No ring on it (lol). I am on the other hand dating. Pretty much testing the waters. There’s like, so many attractive guys out there and being in this industry I have access to ALL of them (lol). So I’m seeing what’s good for now and keeping my options open until I’m ready to settle. Like the song says “girls just wanna have fun” (lol) and actually dating kind of sparks my song writing. Different experiences are where I get some of my best work from. Don’t get it twisted though I let them all know my primary focus is music and family.
Hit up Jayy Starr on Twitter, Myspace and when i find her youtube i will give yall that too but until then check out some of her songs and her OFFICLE music viedo “Face Off“
Other songs by Jayy Starr
Exclusive Interview With Troof Be Told
Last modified on 2010-03-06 21:00:55 GMT. 1 comment. Top.

You have to love an artist that wants to change the music scene and make meaningful music, Troof Be Told is one of those amazing artist that makes music that actually means something. Recently I was lucky enough to get an interview in with Troof Be Told, and I must say he is as real as his name.
The name “Troof Be Told” means that you keep it keep it real and tell it how it is; is that how you got your name?
For the most part yes. It started with my family calling me “Troof” as a nick name. Because my lyrics are based on life experiences weather its from my life or something I witnessed.
When did you realize that music was the path that you wanted to take?
Well I started music very young but got really serious with it right out of high school.
Have you had the pleasure of working with and well known artist, if not who would you want to work with?
I’ve worked with Teddy Riley but nothing was ever released. I would like to work with anyone. Im influenced by all types of music so the list goes on and on.
You song “Call Girl” will make girls wish you were talking about them, how did you get the inspiration for that song?
Honestly I just walked into the studio and my producer “Mind Touch” pretty much had the beat finished and I just wrote all the lyrics based upon what I felt at that moment. And it ended up being a banger
I read that you make all your beats, is this true?
No I don’t make all my own beats. I work very closely with my producer “Mind Touch” to help structure every part of my music.
I noticed that you have a Blog of your own what made you decide to start one up?
I wanted to stay more connected with my fans so I thought creating a blog would help show what I’m interested in.
When I look at your pictures they scream “model” is that something that you also do on the side or was you just blessed with the gift of taking good pictures?
It was just something I fell into. Music comes first but its always nice to dabble in other things.
“Before The Music Ends” is a very interesting title for your Mixtape, how did you come up with that title?
The music industry has been in a bad state financially because of record sales. I also feel its in a bad state because of artist music has no substance and lacks the creativity. So there for I thought it was relevant to title my mixtape “Before The Music Ends”.
Now I know that “Before The Music Ends” volume one came out not too long ago but can we expect a “Before The Music Ends” volume two coming soon?
Yes, Im constantly in the studio recording to various songs so its pretty much finished already. But first I plan on releasing my EP titled “Call Girl”.
And last but not least, I must do this question for the ladies. Are you seeing anyone right now or is your main focus music?
My main focus is always music. But I do have someone special in my life.
You can check out Troof Be Told on Myspace, Twitter, on his very own Blog, and YouTube. But in the mean time in between time you should download his Mixtape “Before The Music Ends” HERE and let me know what you think, but take it from me, your going to love every song.
Exclusive Interview With Bug$y
Last modified on 2010-03-06 21:07:24 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

When it comes to new and up and coming artist they have a drive and a passion for music that to me is stronger than ever and they will stop at nothing to get their name out there and Bug$y is one of them. Recently I featured a song called “With You” by Bug$y, and because I liked the song so much I decided to contact him and get an interview going. “I want for people to know that music is everywhere” he says I must say he aint know lie:
First things first, I have been wondering this for a long time, how did you get the name Bug$y?
WELL, I GOT THE NAME FROM ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES “HARLEM NIGHTS” THERE WAS A MAN BY THE NAME OF BUGSY CALHOUN I LIKED HIS DEMEANOR IT REMINDED ME OF MYSELF SO I TOOK THE NAME IN AND EMBRACED IT
Where did you grow up?
INDIANAPOLIS.
What does your family think of you trying to make a name for yourself?
HONESTLY NOT MANY OF MY FAMILY MEMBERS HAVE HAD THE CHANCE TO LISTEN TO ANY OF MY MUSIC. MOST PEOPLE IN MY FAMILY DONT KNOW ME AS A MUSIC ARTIST. I LOOK FORWARD TO WHAT THEY THINK THOUGH, IM SURE THEY’LL SUPPORT LIKE THEY DO WITH EVERYTHING ELSE I DO. MY BIGGEST FAMILY SUPPORT IS MY AUNT IN MICHIGAN, SHOUT OUT TO HER
When did you realize that music is what you really want to do?
WELL I KNEW I WANTED TO DO MUSIC WHEN I WAS 13. MY UNCLE USE TO TELL ME “YOU KNOW EVERYBODY ELSE SONG HOW BOUT YOU MAKE SOMETHING OF YOUR OWN” THE DAY HE TOLD ME THAT WAS THE DAY I DECIDED TO WORK ON MUSIC. I RECORDED FOR THE FIRST TIME WHEN I WAS 17 FROM THEN ON I’VE ALWAYS HAD A THING WITH MUSIC AND HAVENT BEEN ABLE TO STOP
As you know recently I heard your song “with me” is that song about anyone in particular?
HAHA NOT NECESSARILY ITS MORE ABOUT MEETING A PERSON FOR THE FIRST TIME THAT YOUR INTERESTED IN. I THINK ITS A REALLY SOLID JOINT THOUGH. THAT SONG GOT ME MY FIRST RADIO PLAY WITH THE RADIO STATION IN MY CITY HOT 96.3 SO SHOUT OUT TO THEM AND THE BIG HOMIE DJ WREKK 1 THEY SHOWED ME LOVE ON IT.
I know that you used to be on Ustream a lot. Do you think that it was helpful to making a bigger name for yourself?
I THINK IT HELPED A LITTLE BIT IT MADE A FEW PEOPLE FAMILIAR WITH ME AS A PERSON SO THE PEOPLE THAT SEEN ME ON USTREAM GOT THE OPPORTUNITY TO KNOW ME ON A MORE PERSONAL NOTE AND A LITTLE BIT OF MY MUSIC AS WELL
What is your personal Rap style?
I WOULD SAY IM MORE OF A SONG “MAKER” I MAKE GOOD SONGS I HAVE GOOD LYRICS. I WOULD SAY IM PRETTY POPULAR IN THE MARKET RIGHT NOW FOR FEATURES. IM WORKING WITH A LOT OF ARTIST IN MY CITY ON MUSIC I WOULD SAY IM ONE OF THE TOP ARTIST MAKING MUSIC WHERE IM AT. MY INFLUENCES ARE WAYNE & JUELZ. WAYNE IS PROBABLY MOST PEOPLE FAVORITE ARTIST BUT ASIDE FROM HIS MUSIC HIS DRIVE TO MAKE MUSIC AND BE A COMPETITIVE ARTIST IS WHAT I TRY TO BRING WITH MY MUSIC
Is there a message you want for people to get after they hear your music?
IN MY CASE I WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW THAT THERE IS MUSIC EVERYWHERE. MOST PEOPLE JUST LOOK TO THE BIG CITIES FOR MUSIC AND THEY TEND TO IGNORE THE TALENT IN OTHER CITIES SUCH AS MINE. I WILL SAY THERE ARE MANY TALENT ARTIST WHERE IM FROM ITS JUST THE LIGHTS IN THE INDUSTRY DONT SHINE ON US. ME PERSONALLY BECAUSE I DONT ALWAYS GET MUCH ATTENTION WITH MY MUSIC I PUT MY ALL INTO IT. I DO MUSIC BECAUSE ITS WHAT I LOVE TO DO, EVERY SONG IS ALL ME. FUNNY THING THIS IS, I MAKE EVERY SONG AS IF I WERE THE PERSON LISTENING TO IT FOR THE FIRST TIME AND HOW I WOULD WANT IT TO SOUND AND THATS WHAT I PUT INTO EVERYTHING I DO.
A lot of people are saying that they don’t like the way that music is changing and they want to be the person to bring it back to the way that it was. Are you one of those people if so how do you plan on doing that?
I HAVE FAITH IN THE MUSIC THATS BEING PUT OUT TODAY. I BLAME THE DOWNLOAD COMPANIES. YEA DOWNLOADING IS CONVENIENT BUT ITS THE REASON ARTIST ARENT SELLING THATS THE MAIN PROBLEM. IF THERE WERE NO DOWNLOADS AND AN ARTIST STILL DOESNT SELL IN MY EYES ITS BECAUSE THE ARTIST DIDNT EXECUTE THEIR MAIN OBJECTIVE WITH THE PROJECT. BUT AS LONG AS DOWNLOADS EXIST THERE WILL ALWAYS BE ISSUES WITH MUSIC I DONT CARE WHO THE ARTIST IS. THATS JUST MY PERSONAL OPINION THOUGH. IM WORKING ON A PROJECT RIGHT NOW CALLED “NO MORE LOCKED DOORS” ITS A MIXTAPE IM DOING WITH A POPULAR DJ IN THE CITY ALSO MY PERSONAL FAVORITE DJ [SHOUT MY BRUDDA DJ CHAMP] AT THE MOMENT IM FEELING REAL CONFIDENT WITH THE MATERIAL IT DEFINITELY WILL BE ONE OF THE BEST MIXTAPES PUT OUT IN MY CITY BY FAR
I’m glad that you brought up “No More Locked Doors” because I see you on Twitter tweeting that sometimes and I’ve been thinking that it was you watching one of those “Friday” movies LOL. So “No More Locked Doors” is going to be your next Mixtape? What’s the main focus on “No More Locked Doors”?
MY MAIN FOCUS ON “NO MORE LOCKED DOORS” IS TO SHOW WHAT I CAN DO MUSICALLY AND GET ATTENTION FROM THE MUSIC INDUSTRY AND THE LISTENERS. I CAME UP WITH THE CONCEPT FOR IT BASED ON MY VIEWS OF THE DIRECTION THAT I FEEL MUSIC IS HEADED TO. ITS VERY HARD FOR ARTIST TO GET ATTENTION FROM THESE LABELS SO I CAME UP WITH “NO MORE LOCKED DOORS” AS A WAY OF SAYING ME AND MY MUSIC KNOCKIN AT THE DOOR SO LET US IN
Are there any artists that really stand out to you right now?
OF COURSE EVERYBODY SEE WAYNE AND DRAKE DOING THEY THING IN THE STUDIO PUTTING OUT SOME DOPE JOINTS RIGHT NOW. ASIDE FROM THE POPULAR ARTIST [NOT TO DISCREDIT EVERYBODY ELSE IN THE GAME] BUT RIGHT NOW I THINK J. COLE STANDING OUT A LOT TO ME. I THINK HE LACKS THE EYE TO THE PUBLIC THAT MOST ARTIST ARE GETTING BUT IN TIME HE’S GONNA BE DOPE, PERSONALLY I LOOK FOR TO HEARING WHAT HE CAN COOK UP FOR HIS FIRST ALBUM
Are you seeing anyone at the moment?
I THINK WAYNE SAID IT BEST “I AINT TRIPPIN ON NOTHIN IM SIPPIN ON SOMETHIN AND MY HOMEBOY SAY HE GOT A BAD B**** FOR ME AND IM SINGLE…YEA IM SINGLE…YEA IM SINGLE” LOL
