Newly Natural Advice: How I Trim My Ends
this is all the hair I cut from the last time I dusted my end
When I said that I was going to start doing more natural hair post I was dead serious about it. I wana talk about hair trimming this time around, because I think that a lot of people that go natural sometimes will think just because they are natural, they don’t have to cut their ends anymore and if they do, they automatically think they need to straighten their hair to do it. The technique I choose for cutting my ends is called “dusting”. Dusting is pretty much when you two strand twist your hair and clip off the dry looking, frizzly, slip, and just down right unruly ends.
The reason I choose dusting over completely straightening my hair and cutting my ends that way is because your hair has to be in a whole different kind of shape to be able to rock it straight. Everyone that I have seen on youtube, including myself that has tried to straighten their natural hair always has a little bit of extra frizz on the ends. Its as if the last inch or so just wont straighten all the way, and just plain doesn’t look all that good if you ask me. It’s not as if they have split ends or anything it just doesn’t get as straight on the ends like the rest of their hair does.
Now I will say this, if you know for a fact that your going to want to straighten your hair a lot then you should either go to a hair salon to and get your ends cut, or you should always straighten it before cutting that way you wont be looking crazy when you do straighten your hair. However if your like me… someone who doesn’t plain on truly flat ironing their hair for a couple of years, dusting might be the way to go. In the last 9 months, I haven’t even had split ends, and all I do is dust my ends, when they start to look a little crazy when I take the time to retwist my hair.
I hope this helped a little, I’m going to post a couple of video links [click their names] below:
